What to check before you sign up
Whichever Medicare Supplement provider you choose, compare these points:
- Standardized benefits. A Plan G from one insurer has the same benefits as a Plan G from another in most states.
- How premiums are set. Community-rated, issue-age and attained-age pricing change how your premium rises over time.
- Your guaranteed window. Your Medigap open enrollment period starts when you are 65 and enrolled in Part B. Health questions usually don't apply during it.
- Part B excess charges. Plan G covers them; Plan N does not. This matters if your doctors don't accept Medicare assignment.
